Hey! Brenda, here. And no, I'm not trying to be a hypocrite. My whole goal here is to save you time, money, and headache. I've been going through the sublimation learning process for a couple of years now. I've ruined blanks, burnt up presses, and bought designs that weren't worth pressing! I mean... if that sounds like a ton of fun to you, don't let me stop you. BUT if you would like to avoid as many mistakes as possible, read on for a bit, then heat up the press.

One of the most important steps to being successful in sublimation is getting to know your equipment.

Your Sublimation Equipment and Materials Matter!

Every printer, oven, press, and substrate are different. You need to start with quality materials to make a quality product. With this being said, you don't have to buy the most expensive stuff you can find, you just need to spend a little time on research before you spend your cash.

Not All Designs are Created Equal!

When shopping for your next sublimation project, whether it's a tumbler, a T-shirt, or a keychain, be sure that

  1. The images are high quality PNGs. You're looking for 300 DPI to avoid graininess.

  2. The seller has the right to sell the images. Well known cartoon characters or sports teams are typically big red flags.

  3. Avoid image dumps on social media sites. Free is always tempting, but rarely works well in the end. More times than not, you're going to (at best) waste paper and ink or (worst case scenario) ruin an expensive blank.
